Oh thank you so much! What a treat!! I am a huge 1930′s fashion fan and I love the waved hairdo. I used to have it done a few years ago by someone who knew how to wave just like this video.

My aunt used to have a beauty salon like this..omg..I still remember those old Clairol adverts on her wall…huge! And those women would come in and sit for hours to get their hair done under those dryers!

@ffagffah I’m not sure of the song, but the singer is Annette Hanshaw.

@punxnotdeadyet annette hanshaw, her trade mark was the “that’s all” after most of her songs.

I have a picture of my mother in beauty school in 1946 in one of those permanent wave machines. They were out of vogue by then because cold waves had been invented but most schools and salons still had them. She told me her scalp was burned chemically by it. You would wrap the hair and then put solution soaked pads around it then apply the heating machine-TORTURE!

The writer of the Saw movies clearly had 1930s hair salons in mind when he was designing his torture chambers!

I’m more than pleased with your videos! Where did you get them?

  22. cootercat486 June 5, 2011 at 4:48 pm #

Look how serious and attentive the stylists are to their clients! You don’t see that anymore.

  23. normandyangel June 21, 2011 at 12:06 am #

:14 that machine looks so scary omg what is it? a curly machine if some water got on it you would problably get fried

  24. valericool September 7, 2011 at 2:21 pm #

@cootercat486 Past there they were more attentive since their equipments needed attention. Nowadays the tools used to do hair are easier and faster, so the attention of the stylist does not need to be as severe as before.

@valericool Well, I guess that is so, but somehow, it was more fun back then…..I sure miss it!
